I reckon the logo on Linode Wiki needs a change. Via Linode’s latest blog post, it is now possible to roll your own operating system with Linode’s pv-grub support. There’s even a tutorial on wiki on how to install NetBSD, although it’s far from “click and deploy” like its Linux Xen VPS offerings. Besides a [...]

A few months ago I reviewed VPS Media’s Xen VPS. It was a relatively young hosting start up (although with years of experience behind it). In the email interview I asked Carlos of VPS Media about their up-coming plans, a customised control panel is on the card so they can ditch HyperVM. However the detail [...]

This review is a follow up from my previous blog entry. Long story short — I have been a customer of VPSLink for 17 months and have been using their OpenVZ VPS to host various projects. Recently they launched their Xen VPS hosting product, and Cameron from VPSLink has provided me a Xen Link-3 account [...]

Xen or OpenVZ VPS?

Tag: , , , — November 6, 2007 @ 5:07 am Comments 13

I have been a VPSLink customer for about as long as they have been offering the service — since June 2006 I think — although I rarely blogged about them here. Recently I had an opportunity to test out their recently launched Xen VPS hosting. VPSLink now offers both OpenVZ and Xen based VPS hosting [...]

SliceHost Introduces Rescue Mode for Your VPS

SliceHost has never failed to introduce unique features that impress me. They gave you console access via Ajaxterm, which allows you to rescue badly configured server over nothing but HTTPS. They have also recently introduced “Rescue Mode” for their VPS — another feature that you wish you never would need to use, but is super [...]

Non-overselling Xen might be bad during disasters

Unixshell#, the VPS hosting company that I used for this site, recently had hardware issue with one of its dom0 box, which rendered many VPS hosted on that machine offline for a few days. It seems to be a complicated hardware issue as DC has replaced almost all components to try to single out the [...]

Got a comment from Damien of GPLHost on my XenFu blog that they have started to provide Xen based VPS hosting in Sydney Australia. The data centre utilises MCI network, which has a nice 15-20ms return trip time from both my home ADSL connection and work.
