I'm using ZoneEdit on one of my domains, and Dynect from DynDNS on another one. The Dynect interface is much better than ZoneEdit's, and because Dyn Inc. have servers in different locations, rather than just US and NZ, the service is so much more reliable. Of course, Dynect isn't free, so I suppose we should be happy that ZoneEdit exists to provide free service to those who don't need 5 nameservers per zone. Geographical location does matter, however, as I've found out on several locations. Zones added to ZoneEdit take no time at all to propogate to US and Canada, but to the UK, they take forever. Not good. I'll probably switch all my domains to Dynect soon; ZoneEdit has served me well, but its time to move on.

I've been using zoneedit as well for over 6 years, the service is reasonably priced and have a lot of services. The major issue is that If a server goes down (already happened before), it goes down for many hours, what's worse is that if it's down there is no phone number you can emails are rarely returned when there is a major issue like this. Also site is extremely slow to load or make changes to your account in many instances

All in all, as long as nothing goes wrong, zoneedit is a good service, but if something does go wrong, your on your own and you have to take the heat from your clients until zoneedit takes the time to bring the servers back online.

For a paid service zoneedit should be providing more reliable service or at least return email or FAX inquiries in emergencies.

We are on their business account. Despite their promise to reply within 24 hours, we have had no reply after three emails. How can they run a business this way?

Just a follow up, some 20 days later zoneedit decide they will finally respond: "Our failover monitor can't see your IP address" - I'm thinking thanks for that bit of utter redundancy. The IP address in question is accessible to every other internet connected system on the planet, just not their fail over monitor.

Switched providers, never going back.

TZO for what it's worth, no affiliation, not cheap, but they are light years better.

I have about 12 domains with Zone edit (paid).

The entire thing has just gone to absolute shit (ns3 and ns17). None of my domains are accessible.

Stay clear of these mother f*****ers! What a f**ng terrible service.

Zoneedit - yet another customer dating back to the early 2000's.

I run a bunch of domains (paid for) with failover and load balancing.

21st of November 2009.

Multiple A records, round robin previously working perfectly for years - failover monitor makes its check and somehow round robin dies - failover switches to -error- mode.

Delete IP addresses and enter them over again - round robin starts working - just until failover does its check... Cycle repeats until worker drone feels it's time to move to some other DNS hosting service.

Many MANY emails to support@zoneedit.com have been completely ignored.

I come to this site hoping to find a lower-cost alternative with zoneedit, as one of my friends use zoneedit. But from the comments here it looks like Zoneedit is no longer a viable option. Thanks all for the sharing.

For those looking for paid alternatives to zoneedit, I have been using enom.com for 9 years with email forwards and subdomain creation and forwarding. It costs $30 each year for domain registration and the above services. Another $8 if you want to hide your domain registration information from whois. I am not sure how well their support performs because I never had any issue needing to contact support (fingers-crossed).
