I have been searching for web hosting related podcast so I can learn about the industry while I am commuting, where sometimes it is inconvenient to read. To my surprise, there aren’t many that are available, consider web hosting would be a highly competitive (though low margin) industry.
Web Hosting Show was probably the only one that I can find. Podcaster is Mitch Keeler, and each episode is around 12-17 minutes long with minimal advertise. The content is about, well as the name has suggested, “web hosting” and Mitch also covered latest news in the web hosting world.
Mitch is a “self-proclaimed” web hosting guru, but his only credential seems to be that he has “worked in several hosting companies”. The content, although is web hosting related, is not really technical, which might hardly interest all the software engineers and system administrators out there. What really annoys me is repeated trumpet blowing like “one and only one voice of web hosting world”, “I am web hosting industry media rockstar”, etc. Hmm. I know it is really surprisingly the only one I can find, but I found it is just way too much to be professional. Maybe it is just something distinctive which his audiences love.
At least his commentary is truthful and sometimes helpful. For example in podcast 61 he was in full support of DreamHost’s exposure of dirty hosting review business and suggested FindMyHosting.com which I also personally found very useful review site.
Now, Matt Heaton of BlueHost is also thinking about having a hosting industry related podcast, which sounds very exciting.
I was thinking of inviting many of the bigwigs in the industry to throw around their genius on the podcast (That is if any of them will talk to me :)
Yeah, I would love to hear bigwigs in all big shared hosting companies having an open discussions with call-ins on resource planning to maximise overelling. Bring it on Matt!
