NFSN are the real deal. Everything about them screams no-nonsense, just-do-our-job-and-do-it-well authenticity. Their FAQs and Terms actually make very enlightening and at times amusing reading. I admire their libertarian (and refreshingly *responsibly* libertarian) code of ethics and operation. If you are a relatively to very experienced sys-admin (especially with *nix experience), and especially if you are a control-freak, then NFSN are like an oasis in a big desert. I've been with them for about 6 months - long enough to know I made the right move. If you start to upscale and need serious bandwidth, then keep the site on NFSN but delegate out the heavy lifting parts to Amazon EC2. Happiness.

I hosted with SiteGround for nearly 4 years; they started out great. Then the server became overloaded, service became worthless, and features limited. Once I moved to NFSN I started spending less (on average I currently spend under $1 a month for the same features I was paying $8 or more a month) and what really gets me gong is that I feel as if I have a virtual dedicated server (considering I have root access) which would cost $50 a month and up on other hosts.

They are professional people, and I don't just mean that when it comes to customer service. These guys and girls are experts when it comes to server administration... try matching that when you start getting service from an over-seas third-party support provider from employees who are trained in a classroom for 2 to 3 weeks then given nothing more than tutorials and documentation to assist their customers (I've done this kind of work for Verizon DSL, and received this same training mentioned herein).

Many of the features this service is lacking is also currently being implemented (I say that lightly, cause it could take more than a couple of months to implement, even upwards to a year or more, as many features are still being voted upon), and once they are implemented it is a fact that the features will work better and faster than they would on a traditional hosting company. SSL is being looked at in the future, as is cron jobs and many other desirable features.

All in all, I will stick with NFSN for me smaller projects, and pick another hosts when it comes to dedicated boxes for my larger projects. You owe it to yourself to check NFSN out.

Things I love about NFS.net:

Unix feel. It's not overstuffed with gooey. It has a clean interface that really attracts a unixer like me.

Cheap. For a personal site this one should be the primary consideration on anyone's list.

Fast. Blink of an eye fast.

Solid. Never had experienced any downs with my site.

One thing I don't like though is that it has a bit of an unnatural feel to doing some things. Like if I want to create a subdomain, you have to create a site, etc.. The instructions are a bit non-user friendly. But maybe it's just me ;-)

Overall I love NFS.net and will choose it over any hosting site.

We use nearlyfreespeech.net at http://blog.f9group.com for our marketing, loan modification, live lead transfers, and it works great. Very happy with the service.

I am currently using NFSN on my new website blackslash.net
They are so much cheaper and affordable than the old "normal host"

I don't think I will be leaving them in a long time. The guy/girl who started NFSN, I bow down to you!
They have great support and they are trustworthy, I have not experienced any site downtime at all in tha last 7 months!

By the way. They work great with wordpress and (mostly) all Board/Blogging software...

Great Host 5/5

Yes, NearlyFreeSpeech is genuine.

Use this article if you are going to install Word Press on Nearly Free Speech. If you follow it step by step, should only take you 5 minutes.
