You actually have to generate your own private key file, which is documented on GoDaddy's site when you purchase the certificate. This has to be done prior to requesting the certificate.

You write that the key file is generated in step 2. Where exactly? Is it contained in the GoDaddy zip file?

SSL certs are for the most part a complete rip off and have been for years, and the market for them is a complete joke, less then 0.01% of the total estimate of websites use certificates chained from roots in most browsers that aren't expired.

Current stats for last month (October '07) is 115,756 verses 142,805,398 websites yet there are 350,868 ssl enabled websites. Compared to June which was 117,073 "valid" and 122,000,635 websites and 322,644 ssl sites total.

In fact I'm so jack of how hard it is to enable opportunistic website encryption SSL in some cases, especially with all the snooping going on, everyone should be making as much noise as possible to limit the snooping to real targets whatever.

If you guys get bored check out http://www.LibreSSL.org I've posted some sample scripts on how to enable SSL on all sites on an apache server, I need to post the same for lighttpd...

Does it matter in what order you concatenate the certificates (i.e. intermediate first or second)?

Wow, SSL cert prices keep going down. I'm glad to see a big player step in and bring the price down even more. Would be interesting to see the average price of SSL certs trended by year for the past 10 years. Verisign will have to drop prices again to compete. Good for consumers.
