Is EditDNS dead? Their website is not responding, nor are their 4 DNS servers. Since the DDoS attack at EveryDNS late last year, I have moved some of my domains to EditDNS, another free DNS provider that I have not yet had a chance to review. It is actually the first complete outage I have observed from EditDNS, and with all 4 servers out of reach, you wonder what is happening to them. Another DDoS?
As I have suggested in my previous post that it might be a good idea to build secondary DNS utilising other free DNS providers. Have I taken any action? No. Hopefully this EditDNS incident would teach me some lessons.

They appear to be back up - I have always used zoneedit.com - they’re free for the first 5 zones. I’ve never had any issues and they’ve never been down.
ZoneEdit never down? Check the comments in my ZoneEdit review.
i’ve been happy with www.dnsmadeeasy.com — a trivial cost, but seems very robust.
I’ve been using one of my vps’s running powerdns & then using the free backup ns service from afraid.org He was under a ddos attack last year but since this was a purely backup place i didn’t worry about it.
I’ve used zoneedit.com as well and liked them.
The EditDNS outage got me too. I’ve since set up EveryDNS as a backup. Too bad I can’t force another outage to test it. ;-)
@Kirill — Yes DNSMadeEasy.com looks great with its anycast network. If I ever have a mission critical site, they would be amongst my list of DNS providers to go.
@Nick — I think providing redundancy is important. Not just having NS on multiple class C, but also between different vendors, just in case your DNS provider gets a DDoS. I will write more about my new setup later.
@Albert — I am doing EditDNS + EveryDNS setup as well for now. When they are stable, they are pretty solid aren’t they! I actually prefer them to stay that way rather than getting a DDoS to test out the redundancy setup :)
Hello, I just wanted to drop a note to say that EditDNS is now under new management. Some substantial upgrades are planned, and two DNS servers in Europe were recently added for further redundancy.
