I appreciate all the consideration and all the advises you gave us here, many experimented web hosting users will find them extremely helpful. As for hostings, I am on dedicated servers they fit my sites at the moment.

I was recently wondering about a VPS like Slicehost vs some other form of dedicated servers. This overview really helps to explain why someone with a lower budget like me should go for a nice VPS. I hope Slicehost gives you a bonus for the traffic you give them.

Sorry I am never a customer of ServerAxis. I just found their price cheap (yes I am a cheapstake) and spec very generous.

I might indeed find out by "tasting" their VPS for a month -- it is only $30. Good thing about VPS is their low monthly price and no setup cost unlike dedicated servers. You can always try out for a month or two.

It is the usual problem that shopping for VPS presents an overwhelming number of choices. You state that you “would be giving ServerAxis a try, who is actually cheaper with their better-equipped VPSs.” Their site and service description is impressive enough; but you do not offer supporting reasons behind your endorsement of them. Care to elaborate?

Well I think you covered several of the key points. Not to say a VPS is always the answer, but for entry to mid-level server requirements and consolidation, it's definitely worth considering as you outline above. And as shown by the recent cover of Information Week, virtual servers are only going to gain popularity.

Matt - no problem. I think it has just been debated numerous times on WHT and I am just letting my heart out here. And excuse me for borrowing SliceHost in the example comparison :)

I believe there are advantages for hosts as well, comparing low-end dedicated and high-end VPS. There are less hardware involved (which is always a good thing), faster provisioning, live node migration if SAN is used, etc.
